Weathering With You Film Earns 154 Million Yuan in 1st 3 Days in China

Shinkai's previous opened with the equivalent of US$41 million in China. It ranked #1 in the Chinese box office in its opening weekend. The film eventually earned 576 million yuan ($81.84 million or 8.85 billion).

The anime won the Audience Award at the Animation Is Film Festival in Los Angeles this past weekend. The film's October 18 screening at the festival was the film's United States premiere, with director Shinkai and producer hosted the North American premiere of Weathering With You as part of its Special Presentations category, with screenings on September 8, 10, and 14.
The submitted the film for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the 92nd Academy Awards.
