Sega revealed 10 of the 40 titles that will be included in the Japanese version of the console.

- Puyo Puyo 2
- Shining Force: Kamigami no Isan (Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention)

- Space Harrier II
- Madō Monogatari I
Two of the games featured above (Puyo Puyo 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2) are also part of Sega's "Sega Ages" Nintendo Switch.
The console was originally planned for release in 2018, but was delayed
The console will feature "memorable famous games" that Sega originally released on the Mega Drive. Sega-Haruki Satomi stated last year the "Mega Drive Mini" will be different from an "overseas version" now on sale. Sega is itself planning and releasing the console.
The Mega Drive was Sega's third console, and Sega released the console in Japan in 1989. Sega released the console in the same year in North America under the name Sega Genesis. Sega withdrew from the games console market in 2001.
