Philippine film distributor Rafaella Films International In This Corner of the World anime film in the Philippines on June 28.
In addition, The Japan Foundation, Manila revealed on Wednesday that it will host a special free screening of the film at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on July 1 at 4:00 p.m. as part of its annual Eiga Sai Japanese film festival event this year. The screening will include a "special talk," but the event has not yet announced details regarding the talk.
In This Corner of the World weeks. Box Office Mojo estimates the film's final Japanese gross at US$19,204,593. Due to the film's popularity, more theaters added screenings over time.
The film is based on Kure City on the coast of Hiroshima Prefecture. Suzu perseveres through World War II with pluck and determination.
Director and writer Sunao Katabuchi (Tokyo Theatres Company distributed the film.
The film won the Hiroshima Peace Film Award at the Hiroshima International Film Festival in November, and it screened at Annecy in a Work in Progress session in June 2016.
Film magazine Kinema Jump won the Japanese Movie Award of Excellence and the Noburou Oofuji Award at the 71st Annual Mainichi Film Awards.
